10 Email Marketing Mistakes
These email marketing tips are NOT the ones you see in hoards of re-cycled articles out there.
In fact these are tips you can take to the bank immediately.
No doubt, email is still the fastest and the most profitable means of communication IF used the RIGHT WAY.
You can use it to build trust, brand your business, express your opinions, and to drive instant sales.
Here are ten mistakes most marketers make when they use email for their marketing, leaving tens of thousands of dollars in hidden profits.
1. Not Branding your email template:
Marketers often do this. They want to emulate their favorite gurus and craft and design their messages exactly the way their gurus do.
We work with many start up entrepreneurs and the first thing that we focus on is to create their own uniqueness.
Unique in their presentation, and a style, that stands out like a sore thumb in their market, and a style that they are comfortable with.
The easiest way to make your emails unique is to design a header and a template that's unique to you. You can do that by hiring a designer to do it for you.
2. Not Personalizing Your Email's 'From Name':
As you may already know, people get a lot of unwanted emails in their mailbox now. Most people scan through the 'from address' before they check the subject line of the emails.
If they don't recognize the 'From Name' they usually hit the delete button.
You want to carefully choose the from name and must be consistent with it. Use your full name if you are going for personal branding. Use your company's name if you are focusing on branding your company.
3. Not Extending The Life Of The Email:
When you create a piece of email, be it a personal email, a tip, or sharing something that you learned, always use it on multiple media platforms.
Here are some ways to extend the life of your marketing email:
- Send it to your in-house list
- Use it on a follow up series
- Post it on your Blog
- Post it on social book-marking sites (point it to your blog)
- Post it on social media platforms. (point it to your blog)
- If it's a series of tips, convert it to PDF format and a report.
- Convert the email into a screen video and post it on video sharing sites
- Convert the email message into a podcast and link it on your blogs and iTunes
4. Not Being Consistent:
Human beings are creatures of habit. You want to train your readers to expect something from you consistently.
The best way to reach your readers regularly is by keeping an email schedule.
Example Of A Schedule:
Monday - Tips that you learned that may help your reader.
Tuesday - Hard sell email
Wednesday - Personal email that connects with your audience
Thursday - Recommend a product that may help your readers
Friday - Article about something that educates.
Saturday - Week in review. Link all of the contents on one email.
Now, you are probably wondering if that's too many emails to send per week, and people will get turned off.
Truth is if you are not actively marketing your business and brand, people will most likely forget you. If your readers don't like getting regular emails from you, they will probably never buy from you.
5. Not Creating A Front-End Funnel:
Most affiliate marketers make this mistake. They pick a clickbank affiliate product and start blasting their list with offers that their readers are not interested in.
The solutions is to create a low-cost high-value front end product that converts easily. Use this product as your front-end product and a lead funnel to sell scalable high ticket items.
6. Not Putting Full URL In The Email Message:
A lot of people like to print the email that you send them and read it at their leisure. Trouble is, most marketers hyperlink the Keyword to the website URL where the actual link is not visible when it's printed.
Type in the complete URL at the end of your email message so that your readers can type it in their browser and visit your websites at a later time.
7. Not Doing A Weekly Wrap:
I am guilty of not taking advantage of this unique opportunity myself on a regular basis. (There are times I have done this and seen amazing increase in traffic, and repeat buyers.)
It's the easiest way to get repeat visitors and to give another chance for people who missed out on your daily emails.
Here is how you do it.
Put snippets of your emails that you already sent for the week and link it to each post on your blog, all in one email and send it out on the last working day of the week, preferably on a Friday or Saturday.
The advantages of doing this are, new readers, repeat visitors, new buyers, new leads, repeat buyers...etc.
8. Not Creating A Newsletter:
The easiest way to create 'brand recognition' is by starting a newsletter. There are many opportunities for steady revenue when you publiush a newsletter.
Here are some newsletter revenue opportunities:
- Sell short sponsor ads
- Pay-per-click ad revenue
- Solo ad revenue
- Paid reviews
9. Clutter On HTML Emails:
Bright flashing images and corny designs on HTML emails are a trun off for many Internet users. Use fonts that are easily readable and professional looking.
Layout and balance is key and it makes you look professional. Professionalism creates trust, and trust is important for the longevity of your online business.
10. Not Putting Full Contact information:
Affiliate marketers are notorious for this. When you pick a product to promote, pick something that you trust and believe in, that way you won't have second thoughts about putting your name on it.
Don't forget to put your full contact information. People will call you when you put your phone number on the emails that you send out.
You will make many profitable and useful relationships by talking to people directly on the phone.
If emails are the fastest and the most effective way to create more income why not use it the right way and double or triple your current income?
Do emails the right way. Do it more often.
"Doing the right thing more often is the secret to success."
